Mizuno PGA Tour Staffer Luke Donald was announced as the 2011 PGA Tour Player of the Year by PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem following a vote by PGA Tour players. Donald earned the honor by capturing the PGA Tour money list title on the strength of two PGA Tour victories and a Tour-leading 14 top-10 finishes. This prestigious honor caps off a spectacular season for the number-one player in the world.
Donald’s wins at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship and the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic helped solidify his PGA Tour Player of the Year title. His come-from-behind victory at Disney concluded his finest year on the PGA Tour by earning $6.68 million and his first ever PGA Tour money title. Donald was also the PGA Tour’s leader in adjusted scoring average at 68.86, earning him both the Vardon Trophy and Byron Nelson Award. Donald led the PGA Tour with 14 top-10 finishes in 19 events.
For the 28th consecutive week Donald sits atop the World Golf Rankings, which apart from Tiger Woods run at number one from 2005 to 2010, is the longest stretch since Greg Norman’s 96 weeks from 1995 to 1997. Utilizing his high performance Grain Flow Forged MP irons, MP T-11 wedges, and Mizuno CLK Fli-Hi, Donald made history this week as the first player to win both the PGA Tour and European Tour money lists in the same year, as he finished third at the Dubai World Championships.

Mizuno PGA Tour Staffer and World #1 Golfer Luke Donald finished off his remarkable 2011 PGA Tour season in grand fashion, winning the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Trailing by five shots entering Sunday, Donald fired an 8-under 64 in the final round, starting off the back nine with six consecutive birdies. He went on to finish 17-under for the tournament, winning by two shots.
“After the eighth hole, it wasn’t looking good,” said Donald. “My caddie and I talked Saturday night that I hadn’t really gotten on a run yet this week. What better time to get on a run than the back nine on Sunday. It’s nice to do it under pressure when I need to.”

With one foot in a lake, two hands on his Vokey Design Spin Milled wedge and the game’s richest prize on the line, Titleist Brand Ambassador Bill Haas stood over his Titleist Pro V1x golf ball and hit one of the PGA Tour’s all-time clutch shots Sunday afternoon at East Lake, propelling him to victories in both the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup Playoffs.
On the second hole of an all-Titleist playoff with Pro V1x loyalist Hunter Mahan, Haas’ approach shot hit the left side of the 17th green and dribbled to the edge of the lake, leaving about one-third of his ball sitting below the water line.
Haas never hesitated, trusting his Titleist golf ball and equipment would reward him for a great swing.
“We get up there and that’s when I see the ball, and I say in my head, ‘I have a shot,’ ” said Haas, who immediately pulled his Vokey Design Spin Milled 60•E (bent to 59º) wedge from his bag, hopped down the four-foot embankment, stuck one foot in the water and waggled his wedge over his Pro V1x.
“You play it like a bunker shot, for those of you that want to know, if there’s a little bit of water, if you don’t mind getting your feet dirty, and then blast it out of there,” he said. “It came out perfect.” Read More…

With the Introduction of the Idea a12 OS Hybrid Irons and the Idea a12 Hybrids.
PLANO, TEXAS, September 16, 2011 – Adams Golf (Nasdaq: ADGF), the category leader in hybrid iron technology, today introduced the best performing and easiest-to-hit hybrid iron set ever – the Idea a12 OS Irons. The a12 OS Irons feature deep undercut cavity-back irons, redesigned Transitional Hybrids (patented) as well as hybrids utilizing Velocity Slot Technology for the first time. These fine clubs will be available at select retailers beginning early October.
The newest generation of the Idea family, the Idea a12 OS hybrid irons are built with ultra thin faces, perimeter weighting and low CG’s throughout the set. For the first time in a hybrid club, the Idea a12 OS hybrid utilizes Velocity Slot Technology to produce a spring-like effect across the entire face, which improves forgiveness and increases launch angle without increasing spin; this combined with the ultra thin face produces higher ball speeds increasing distance. The Idea a12 OS set also includes redesigned Transitional Hybrids with a “Truss Back” design allowing more weight to be distributed to the perimeter of the club lowering the center of gravity making them optimally suited for bridging the gap between the hybrids and the deep undercut cavity-back irons of the set.
“Engineers have long been trying to increase launch angle and ball speed without increasing spin rate with little success,” said Michael Vrska, Director of Product Development at Adams Golf. “However, the spring-like effect produced across the entire face by the Velocity Slot Technology does just that, giving golfers increased distance, optimized launch and improved forgiveness.”
The standard men’s and senior sets are composed of three hybrids (4, 5, 6) featuring Velocity Slot Technology, two patented Transitional Hybrids (7, 8 ) with the “truss back” design, and three deep undercut cavity-back irons (9, PW, GW). The set utilizes Grafalloy Pro Launch Blue graphite shafts or True Temper Performance steel shafts and Adams Tour Elite grips produced by Lamkin. The Idea a12 OS set will have an MSRP $699.99 with steel shafts and $799.99 with graphite shafts and will be available in both right and left handed. The set can be tailored to a specific player’s needs by adding additional hybrids (2, 3, 7), transitional hybrids (5, 6), or irons (SW, LW) through custom order.
Adams Golf also developed the Idea a12 OS Irons for women. While utilizing the same technologies found in the men’s sets, the Women’s Idea a12 OS Irons were built with dedicated tooling and modified specs to make them better performing for women golfers. The standard women’s set is composed of three hybrids (4, 5, 6), two patented Transitional Hybrids (7, 8), and three cavity-back irons (9, PW, SW). The women’s set has a sandstone finish and utilizes a matching Idea Ultra-Lite High Launch graphite shaft. The Women’s Idea a12 OS will have an MSRP of $799.99. The women’s set can also be tailored to a specific golfer’s needs by adding additional hybrids (3, 7) or cavity-back irons (GW, LW).

LEMONT, Ill. – The score sheet will say England’s Justin Rose breezed to a wire-to-wire victory in the BMW Championship. Breezed? It was more like weathering Hurricane Irene.
Playing in steady rain, Rose nearly squandered a five-stroke lead after eight holes Sunday but held on with an even-par 71 to win the third PGA Tour playoff event, at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. His 13-under-par 271 total was two shots better than steady Australian John Senden, who had closed within one of the lead after 15 holes.
Rose struggled through much of the back nine — missing four of five fairways and five of seven greens at one point — but sank a 35-foot chip shot from in front of the 17th green for birdie and a two-shot lead. Read More…
