Built 4 Explosive Distance!

09-14-2011-cobra-long-tom-driver-pre-order-email

During World War II, the United States Army used massive 155 mm Gun M1 cannons that could hit enemy targets with a 94-pound shell from 14 miles away. Nicknamed “Long Tom,” they were serious heavy hitters. This fall, Cobra Golf will release two new drivers inspired by those cannons—the Long Tom and the limited-edition Long Tom RAW—for golfers who want serious firepower on the tee.

Measuring four feet in length (the USGA length limit is 48” for all clubs except putters), the face of each Long Tom driver is made from a new titanium alloy that is stronger than previous materials used by Cobra. This alloy makes the face thinner, and in the process, creates 20 grams of discretionary weight that has been redistributed low and deep in the 460-cc head. This discretionary weight lowers the center of gravity and helps to create a higher launch and, according to Cobra, more distance.

Like last season’s S3 driver family, Long Tom drivers also feature an elliptically shaped sweet spot that helps to maintain ball speed on shots hit in the low-heel and high-toe areas, where Cobra says players mis-hit most often.

Weighing in at a scant 269 grams, the Long Tom will come standard with a Grafalloy Blackbird shaft. Grafalloy says that a unique black paint on the Blackbird improves aerodynamics. Even the club’s grip, a Winn Ultra Light/Shorty, is geared toward adding yardage—it’s so small that you can’t choke down on the club!

{Whats in the Bag} Keegan Bradley | Major Champion

8-15-2011-cleveland-brag-keegan-bradley

Keegan’s hard work over the years has paid off.  Just two years ago Keegan was on the Hooters Tour just “trying to survive”, living in a one bedroom apartment.  Last year he made a name for himself on the Nationwide Tour, finish 14th on the money list and earning status on the PGA Tour.  His first career PGA Tour win came earlier this year at the HP Byron Nelson Classic, also in a playoff and has recorded four other Top 10s.

With this win, the Bradley name is added to the uber-short list of Francis Ouimet and Ben Curtis. Those are the three golfers since 1913 to win a major in their first attempt. Keegan Bradley locked up his 2nd win of the year on Sunday in absolutely ridiculous fashion coming down the stretch. At one point, with three holes to play, Bradley was 5 shots back of the lead and the metaphorical fat lady had all but taken the stage for her big solo. A triple bogey on the Par 3, 15th hole left Bradley seemingly out of the Championship, leaving viewers thinking he had a nice week but it wasn’t meant to be. However, back-to-back birdies (including one jaw dropping putt on 17) and a steady par on 18 were enough to force a playoff. Once the playoff began, Keegan wasted no time extending the momentum he had going from the previous three holes.

So, congratulations Keegan Bradley! You have just joined an elite club! Not only is Keegan now a major champion, he has just vaulted to the top of the Rookie of the Year conversation, as well as making an exceptionally strong case for Player of the Year honors.  With this win, Keegan moves to 4th in FedEx Cup points and 29th in the OGWR!  Do you think Keegan is a legitimate Player of the Year contender?

Here is what Keegan used to win the PGA Championship:

FAIRWAY WOOD: Cleveland Launcher FL

Sean O’Hair Turns Tough Year Around by Winning RBC Canadian Open Playing TaylorMade R11 Driver, Wearing adidas Golf and Ashworth

Three Brands Unite in the Winner’s Circle as O’Hair notches Fourth Career PGA Tour Victory

TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Sean O’Hair earned his fourth PGA Tour victory Sunday, winning the RBC Canadian Open playing the R11 driver, wearing Ashworth apparel and adidas Golf footwear. O’Hair’s excellent tee-to-green play was critical to handling the narrow fairways and exceptionally heavy rough of Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club’s. He drove brilliantly with his R11, ranking third in driving distance (299.6), also used the Tour Preferred MB forged irons and the Penta TP ball to notch 10 birdies in the final 36 holes of regulation. The R11 driver, Tour Preferred MB and Penta TP were likewise used last week by TaylorMade Tour Staffer Darren Clarke to win the Open Championship.

The victory vindicates months of work O’Hair has put in to regain his form in the midst of a 12-tournament streak in which he missed  nine of 12 cuts and fell to 114th in the Official World Golf Rankings. The win puts O’Hair, 29, back in the thick of the 2011 FedExCup points race (43rd). It had been two years since his last victory, at the 2009 Quail Hollow Championship.

“It’s been a humbling year,” O’Hair said. “It’s been a tough road and I’ve had a lot of people help me get to this point.” *

{Whats in the Bag} Darren Clarke | Heart of a Champion @ The Open

7-18-2011-taylormade-darren-clarke-open-championship-2-email

TaylorMade Tour Staff Professional Darren Clarke Captures Open Championship Playing R11 Driver

Clarke, 42, Becomes Oldest Open Champion Since 1967 Playing R11 Driver, Tour Preferred MB Forged Irons, Penta TP Golf Ball

TaylorMade Tour Staff Professional Darren Clarke captured the Open Championship Sunday, realizing a lifelong dream of hoisting the Claret Jug after delivering a virtuoso performance at Royal St. George’s. Exceptional ballstriking and true grit fueled Clarke’s emotionally charged victory at the Open, his first major championship win in 54 attempts.

“it’s been a dream since I’ve been a kid to win The Open, like any kid’s dream is, and I’m able to do it, which just feels incredible, incredible right now,” Clarke said.

Playing the R11 driver, Tour Preferred MB irons and the Penta TP golf ball, the journeyman Clarke was well-suited to take on classic Open conditions. Three consecutive rounds in the 60s put Clarke in position to capitalize on a one-shot lead Sunday, a wild afternoon that hosted his gutsy final-round 70 – highlighted by a 20-foot eagle putt at the par-5 seventh. His 72-hole total of 275 was good for a three-shot win, his second this year and 21st career worldwide. Clarke previously won the Iberdrola Open in May.

With the win, Clarke, 42, became the oldest Open Champion since 1967 and left little doubt about the celebration to ensue in his home country of Northern Ireland. Clarke also moved to No. 30 in the Official World Golf Rankings and now ranks sixth in the Race to Dubai.

TaylorMade drivers have been used in 32 victories worldwide in 2011 – more than any other brand. Clarke’s victory marks the first major win for the revolutionary R11 driver and second for the Penta TP golf ball. TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Martin Kaymer won the 2010 PGA Championship playing Penta TP, the first and only five-layer Tour ball and the most complete ball in golf.

Fredrik Jacobson Wins Travelers Championship For First PGA Tour Title

freddie-blog-featured

CROMWELL, Conn., June 26, 2011- Leading by a stroke going into the final round of the 2011 Travelers Championship, Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobson held on by that margin and shot a 66 to earn his first career PGA TOUR victory at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.

“Obviously, it means a great deal,” Jacobson said. “I came over in ’03 after having won in Europe, and I had my eyes on the (PGA) TOUR. Obviously after winning a couple of times that year (on European Tour), I felt pretty good about winning, and I didn’t know it was going to take this long before I won one. But whoever waits for a long time, all the sweeter when it comes together.”

Jacobson moved into first place when he shot a 63 Saturday. He fired a three-under on the front nine Sunday to retain the lead and held on with a back nine 34.

Jacobson was tied with Ryan Moore after 17 holes on Sunday at 20-under par. Moore bogeyed the 72nd hole to finish at 19-under. Needing a par for the win, Jacobson calmly hit his drive in the fairway on 18 and stuck his approach to 13 feet. He two putted for the win. Moore and John Rollins finished at 19-under and tied for second place.

Jacobson was steady the entire tournament, as evidenced by just one bogey over four rounds. His total score of 260 is the third best in tournament history, just two strokes off Kenny Perry’s 72-hole tournament record of 258 in 2009.

This was Jacobson’s fourth appearance at the Travelers Championship, his previous best finish coming in 2006, when he tied for 48th. Overall, this is his fourth title, with the other three wins coming on the European Tour in 2003.

Jacobson became the fourth first-time PGA TOUR winner at the Travelers Championship in the last six years, joining J.J.Henry in 2006, Hunter Mahan in 2007 and Bubba Watson in 2010. The 2012 Travelers Championship will take place June 18-24 at TPC River Highlands. For more information, please visit www.TravelersChampionship.com.
